In an interview withET Online, Kinney was asked about thePretty Little Liarsreboot cancellation. The actor, who played Tabby, gives a candid response. She reflects on the fact that herPLLcast mates have been supporting her as she’s been a contestant on the latest season ofDancing with the Stars. Kinney adds that the “texts were popping off” when the cancellation was first announced,admitting to her disappointment and praising what she felt made the reboot unique and stressing that she feels grateful to have been a part ofPLL. Texts were popping off. I think we all had a lot of feelings about it, because we all care so much about the show, and I think we worked our booties off and, you know, we wanted to keep going. And so I think we’re just so grateful to have been able to tell the story. I think it’s so rare that you see five strong women leading a show who are not only vulnerable but then, like, can have weak moments and then come back and be stronger and learn and make mistakes. It’s such a fun show because, it’s like, showing women being women, and, like, growing up, you know, and so I was just so grateful to tell those stories.

On a broad level, the reboot’s cancellation raises questions about the Max streaming service. Although new and high-profile projects are regularly being announced for HBO, the slate of programming that is being developed specifically for Max is notably smaller. The cast and fans being upset by the cancellation is understandable consideringPretty Little Liars: Summer Schooland its cliffhanger ending. Season 2 concluded with the villain Archie Waters returning to kill Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish), and the cancellation means that Kinney, Bailee Madison, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, and Mallory Bechtel will not get to follow up on the twist that was planted by the show’s co-creators.Although low viewership is likely to blame for the cancellation, no official reason has been given.

At only eight episodes per season,there wasn’t a lot of time to really grow the core characters and relationshipsconsidering the runtime devoted to unraveling the murderer in each season.
