Sigourney Weaver has revealed first details about her character inThe Mandalorian and Grogu, and she’s given the first hints about theupcomingStar Warsmovie’s plot. Set to release on August 16, 2025,The Mandalorian and Groguwill lead the way back to the big screen forStar Wars; it’s the first movie in the franchise since 2019’sThe Rise of Skywalker. We know that Sigourney Weaver is finally heading to the galaxy far, far away, but her role is a mystery.
Speaking toGames Radarwhile promoting her upcoming movieThe Gorge, Weaver has confirmed that her character - rumored to be a New Republic leader called Colonel Bishop - will be responsible for Din Djarin’s mission.“I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority,” she revealed. “And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.“No doubt more will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration this year.

Sigourney Weaver’s Character Likely Runs Adelphi Base
It’s A Logical Role, Albeit A Surprising One
It’s pretty easy to join the dots from Weaver’s comment, givenThe Mandalorianseason 3’s ending. This saw Din Djarin strike a new deal with the New Republic’s Carson Teva (played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee). He offered to work exclusively for the New Republic, helping them round up former Imperials. It’s reasonable to assume Weaver’s mysterious character is in charge of the military base on Adelphi, where Teva is stationed. She’ll likely send Din Djarin on a mission to find an Imperial.
Many had speculated that Weaver was actually playing an Imperial herself, with some suggesting she could be the canon version of a ruthless warlord named Ysanne Isard from the oldStar WarsExpanded Universe. This now seems unlikely, and it’s intriguing to speculate who the real villain ofThe Mandalorian and Grogureally is. Din Djarin is hunting Imperials at a time when the Imperial Remnant has been unified byGrand Admiral Thrawn, meaning he’s on the front lines of a conflict he doesn’t even know is happening.
Our Take On The Mandalorian And Grogu
The Story Is Still A Mystery
Written and directed by Dave Filoni,The Mandalorian and Groguremains surprisingly secretive. It’s reminiscent of the build-up toThe Mandalorianseason 1 itself, where Lucasfilm somehow managed to conceal Grogu’s very existence - meaning “Baby Yoda” was a surprise. That pattern is clearly continuing, even if some of the details can be deduced from Weaver’s comments. It’s going to be exciting to get some solid information at Star Wars Celebration this year.
