Warning: Contains spoilers for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War part 3, episode #7.According to one of the staff writers,Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood Waris slowly heading toward a far deadlier conclusion than the manga. One of the biggest hallmarks ofBleach’s returnhas been all the changes it’s made to the manga; certain fights and scenes are expanded on to better flesh things out, and it all makes things feel bigger and more coherent than what was presented in the manga.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’s changes to the mangahave been its biggest selling point, and they’re poised to get far more dramatic in part 3. In a recent interview with staff writer Masaki Hiramatsu, Hiramatsu asked people to pay attention to how the original scenes will make for a deadly battle going forward, and that implies thatBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Waris going to use original content to make the story even darker than the original manga. That idea can already be seen in the most recent episode, and there’s no telling where things could go from there.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Gets Dark With The Death Of A Major Character

Bleach’s Surprising Character Death Explained

If there’s any indication of how darkBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warwill get, it can be found inBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warpart 3, episode #7. Episode #7 showed an anime-original fight between Renji and Uryu, and the fight ended with Uryu winning and shooting Renji straight through the chest. While those sorts of injuries are nothing new forBleach, series creator Tite Kubo then released new artwork of Renji, something he only does when a character dies, soBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warpart 3 is already getting incredibly dark with the surprising death of Renji.

As surprising as Renji’s death was, it was the perfect way to show how dark and overall different the anime will get. Renji, like most of the principal cast, survived through the end ofBleach, so if the anime, which Tite Kubo is heavily involved with, was willing to kill Renji, thenRenji’s death perfectly illustrates how unafraidBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Waris of getting dark and changing the manga. There’s still the possibility of Renji’s death being a fakeout or being reversed, but it still sets a great precedent for what to expect from the anime, going forward.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Getting Dark Can Make The Story Even Better

Of the numerous criticisms of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, chief among them was how cleanly the story ultimately wrapped up, despite the major stakes of the plot, but if the tone of part 3, episode #7 is going to be the standard from hereon out, thenBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warcan further improve on the manga by using darker storytelling to better sell the stakes of the story. It’s unknown what elseBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warcould do to sell that, but if it’s anything like what happened in its latest episode, there’s plenty to be excited about.
