Yoko Taro has made a name for himself as an unabashedly raunchy creator, and theNier: Automataanime,Nier: Automata Ver1.1aalmost took that to a whole new level. In a recent interview with Yoko Taro, it was revealed thatYoko Taro wantedNier: Automata Ver1.1ato feature a sex scene between 2B and 9S, something original to the anime, but series producer Miho Matsumoto shot it down under the logic that “9S doesn’t do that.”There was also the rationale that a sex scene wouldn’t go over well with viewers, and since Matsumoto knew anime better than Yoko, Yoko ultimately relented.
Why Nier: Automata Cutting The Anime’s Sex Scene Was For The Best

As much as there’s romantic tension between 2B and 9S, the simple bond of friendship they’ve shared throughout their tragic circumstances has always been the bigger point of their relationship, soa sex scene between 2B and 9S would have run the risk of muddying the positives of their relationship as opposed to enhancing them. It was a rare example of editorial interference making a story better, and that sort of planning is a big part of whyNier: Automata Ver1.1awas so great.
