Star Wars' latest retcon toThe Mandalorianmay have set up a thrilling idea for a new television show.Star Warstelevision shows seem to be winding down, as only threeupcomingStar Warsshowsare on the horizon:Skeleton Crew,Andorseason 2, andAhsokaseason 2. Instead, the franchise seems to be returning its focus to movies, such as theupcoming filmThe Mandalorian & Grogu. ThoughStar Warsseems to be slowing down on TV shows, the franchise may have recently introduced something that would open the door to a new series.
TheStar Warstimelinecan often be a bit confusing, mainly because it’s so often the subject of major retcons and changes. One of the most often changed parts of the timeline is theGreat Purge of Mandalore, introduced inThe Mandalorian. Now,Star WarsOutlawshas changed the date of the Purgeyet again, setting it a full year prior to whenAhsokaindicated that it had happened. While it doesn’t seem very important, the date of the Purge of Mandalore is very important to Ahsoka Tano’s story, and it could prove important to a potential newStar Warsshow.

Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What’s the best way to watch Star Wars? Here’s everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
The Purge Of Mandalore’s New Date Means Ahsoka & Sabine Might Have Fought In The Galactic Civil War
SinceOutlawsconfirmed that the Purge of Mandalore happened earlier than expected, it opens the door for Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren to be involved in the Galactic Civil War.Ahsokaconfirmed that Ahsoka was training Sabine in the ways of the Jedi until shortly after the Purge. That previously served as an explanation forwhere Ahsoka was during theStar Warsoriginal trilogy, but not anymore. Now, since the Purge of Mandalore is definitively placed in 3 ABY, there were two full years between the end of Ahsoka and Sabine’s training and the end of the Galactic Civil War at the Battle of Jakku in 5 ABY.
Ahsoka
Cast
Ahsoka follows the journey of former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Released in 2023, this series takes place within the Star Wars universe and features Ahsoka navigating through a complex political and cosmic landscape.
The new timeline of the Purge of Mandalore means there were two years when the Galactic Civil War was still raging and Ahsoka didn’t have a Padawan to occupy her time.It seems incredibly unlikely that Ahsoka or Sabine - two women who had spent the majority of their lives fighting against injustice and the Empire specifically - would stay out of the war willingly for two years. What makes that even less likely is the fact that General Hera Syndulla had contact with both Ahsoka and Sabine during the war. In essence, there’s almost no way Ahsoka and Sabine both missed the war.

Ahsoka Tano’s First Time Meeting Luke Skywalker Happened Off-Screen
There’s another hole in Ahsoka’s story aside from the final two years of the Galactic Civil War. Ahsoka’s first appearance alongside Luke Skywalker came inThe Book of Boba Fett, but that wasn’t their first meeting.Ahsoka and Luke were already familiar with each other long beforeThe Book of Boba Fett, butStar Warshasn’t revealed when they first encountered each other. SinceThe Book of Boba Fetttook place in 9 ABY, and Ahsoka was training Sabine until 3 ABY at the earliest, there are only six years when the two could have met.
Ahsoka Tano
The apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano was an accomplished Padawan who served during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka left the Jedi after she became disillusioned with the Jedi Council, but returned to serve in the Siege of Mandalore at the end of the Clone Wars. She survived Order 66, becoming a Rebel agent during the Dark Times of the Empire’s reign, and her adventures continue in the New Republic era. Ahsoka was last seen stranded in a distant galaxy, having failed to prevent Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return.
Luke Skywalker
The son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, Luke was brought up on the desert planet Tatooine. Initially mentored by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke fired the fateful shot that destroyed the Death Star, and he became a rebel hero. Despite the fears of Obi-Wan and Yoda, Luke’s faith in his father was proved well-founded when Vader returned to the light. With the Emperor defeated, Luke dedicated himself to bringing back the Jedi; his first attempt ended in tragedy due to Palpatine’s manipulations, but Luke’s legacy lives on in Rey.
Like Ahsoka’s absence from the Galactic Civil War, the fact that her first time meeting Luke hasn’t been depicted at all is profoundly odd.Ahsoka was extremely close to Luke’s father, Anakin Skywalker, as she was his Padawan throughout the Clone Wars. Meeting Luke should have been an incredibly emotional moment, and one that would have been perfect to adapt into a show.Star Wars, however, chose to leave that pivotal moment unseen, and no one knowswhen exactly Ahsoka met Luke.Outlaws, however, may have indicated that the franchise is gearing up to finally show the moment they met.

This Could Be The Perfect Setup For Star Wars' Next Animated TV Show
Star Warsrarely does anything without purpose, and changing the date of the Purge of Mandalore doesn’t seem to be an exception. The new date makes it possible for Ahsoka and Sabine to have fought in the Galactic Civil War, and the new comics could indicate that future stories will be set at exactly the right time to show their involvement. That, coupled with the fact thatLucasfilm is making a new animatedStar Warsshow, could be a hint that they have something big planned for Ahsoka’s first appearance in the war.Star Warscould depict Ahsoka Tano meeting Luke Skywalker in a new animated TV show.
Star Wars Outlaws
Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world action-adventure game where players hop into the scoundrel boots of Kay Vess, a woman who travels the galaxy Looking for a better life. Together with her furry partner Nix and new allies she meets along the way, Kay will navigate the various landscapes, towns, and planets across the galaxy while outsmarting both Crime Syndicates and the Empire.
The date of the Purge of Mandalore was a headache for years, but it seemed likeAhsokafinally solved it.Outlaws, however, ruined that adequate explanation by placing it a year prior, and it did so through an unnamed stormtrooper. One of the few reasonsStar Warswould so casually rewrite Mandalorian history is if the franchise is setting up another story that requires a different timeline, like Ahsoka’s involvement in the Galactic Civil War. If Ahsoka does end up fighting in the war in an upcomingStar Warsstory, there are a few moments that would be perfect for her to meet Luke.

Where Could Ahsoka & Luke Meet In A New Animated Show?
If Ahsoka and Luke do meet in an animated show set in the final days of the Galactic Civil War, there are a few moments when that meeting would make the most sense. One of those is the post-Return of the Jediera. The final year of the Galactic Civil War is such a ripe and unexplored time in galactic history that it could easily be the subject of an entire series. It would also offer several chances for Ahsoka and Luke to meet, such as during the Battle of Jakku. Luke is even confirmed to be at the Battle of Jakku thanks to an upcomingStar Warscomic.
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
Return of the Jedi concludes George Lucas’s original Star Wars trilogy with Luke Skywalker and his allies seeking to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt and facing a renewed threat as the Emperor attempts to obliterate the Rebellion through a second Death Star, broadening the epic battle between good and evil.
Star Wars' decision to depict the Battle of Jakku in comic format is also a very promising sign for stories set afterReturn of the Jedi.Only a handful of stories take place between the original and sequel trilogies, likeThe Mandalorianand its various spinoffs and a few older novels and games about the Battle of Jakku.Star Wars' newest comics might be a sign that the franchise is willing to explore the years betweenReturn of the JediandThe Mandalorianin much greater detail than ever before, and a new animated show could follow suit.

Star Wars: What Happened At The Battle of Jakku Explained
The Battle of Jakku served as the true end to the Galactic Civil War in the Star Wars canon, and the beginning of the New Republic Era.
Even if a new animatedStar Warsshow doesn’t take place after the Battle of Endor, though, there are other ways it could fit into the timeline.Outlawshas confirmed that the Purge of Mandalore took place at roughly the same time asThe Empire Strikes Back, which means Ahsoka could meet her master’s son in the year between movies. If they were to meet in 3 ABY, Ahsoka could even offer Luke some training and tips. That alone would be an incredible story opportunity, but there’s also plenty of potential in showing Luke’s development into a true Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
The Empire Strikes Back is the second installment in the original Star Wars trilogy, directed by Irvin Kershner. Released in 1980, it follows Luke Skywalker as he trains under Jedi Master Yoda, while Princess Leia, Han Solo, and the Rebel Alliance face ongoing threats from the Galactic Empire and Darth Vader.
Ahsoka’s first encounter with Luke - if it’s shown at all - will likely come in aStar Warsshow. It’s too big of a moment to keep solely in the comics, and Dave Filoni is notoriously protective of his creations, so he likely wouldn’t let a comic depict such a huge moment. Additionally,Star Wars: The Bad Batchwas meant to be the end of the Clone Wars era of storytelling, so the next animated show would need a new era. Thus, a retcon ofThe Mandaloriancould be the key to showing how Luke Skywalker met Ahsoka Tano, and to a newStar Warsshow.

The Mandalorian
