Star Warshas set up a possible return for fan-favorite clone trooperCaptain Rexin the Mandalorian era, which could see him reunite with Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Rex and Ahsoka really are one ofStar Wars’best duos. After fighting side-by-side duringStar Wars: The Clone Wars, they reunited inStar Wars Rebels. Ahsoka has since returned totheStar WarstimelineinThe Mandalorian,The Book of Boba Fett, andAhsoka, but Rex hasn’t. Audiences are eager to see Rex and Ahsoka connect once more, andStar Warsjust dropped a major hint that reunion may be coming.

In the brand-new canonStar Warsbook,Star Wars:The Secrets of the Clone Troopers, written by Marc Sumerak, Captain Rex muses on his future in the wake of the fall of the Empire. The text states:

Captain Rex from Star Wars The Clone Wars

“The war against the Empire may be over, but a good soldier knows that there’s plenty of work left to be done after the last shots are fired. My rebel friends and I are still picking up the pieces, but as far as we can tell, Palpatine is gone for good and the galaxy is finally free.”

Although ambiguous, this line suggests thatRex has remained in touch with the friends he made and worked alongside during the Rebellion—among them, Ezra Bridger, Hera Syndulla, and Ahsoka Tano.

What Captain Rex’s Return Would Mean For Star Wars

Captain Rex is one ofStar Wars’best characters, even when compared with some of the franchise’s greatest Jedi and Sith, andhis return would undoubtedly be highly celebratedfor that reason. The clone troopers have become increasingly important toStar Warsmovies and TV shows. After being introduced inStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clonesand becoming the executioners of the Jedi inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the clones were fleshed out considerably inThe Clone Wars,Rebels, andStar Wars: The Bad Batch.

What Happened To Captain Rex After The Clone Wars & Order 66?

Captain Rex played a crucial role in pre-Imperial Star Wars, but what happened to the esteemed clone captain after Order 66 turned things upside down?

Bringing Rex back toStar Warswould be the perfect way to continue that story in a new era. The clone arc effectively ‘ended’ withThe Bad Batch, but that doesn’t mean the clones simply went away after that show concluded. Rex was clearly still alive even after the Empire fell, and he’s never been the type to truly sit anything out. His intentions are also clear; he wants to help the galaxy rebuild after the Empire. This would not only continue the story of one ofStar Wars’most beloved characters but also reveal where the clones are now.

Our Take On Whether Captain Rex Should Return

I, like manyStar Warsfans, am very eager to see Rex’s return.Ahsokaalready teased this by finally introducing live-action Captain Rex in a flashback sequence when Ahsoka was inthe World Between Worlds. This appearance has me so much more excited about the possibility of a full arc for Rex in live-action, which could happen in eitherAhsokaseason 2 or evenThe Mandalorian & Grogu. The relationship between Rex and Ahsoka is also one I would love to see again.

Ahsoka Season 2: Story, Updates, Everything We Know

Ahsoka season 2 is confirmed and has received exciting new story and filming updates. Here’s everything we know about the Star Wars project.

In many ways, Rex and Ahsoka have the same trauma. They were both dear friends of Anakin Skywalker, and they were both attacked and nearly killed during Order 66, only to watch all their clone comrades die in the tragic event. Ahsoka and Rex therefore understand each other in a very unique way, and it would be wonderful for both of them to have one more reunion. Hopefully, this is more than just a hint, andStar Warswill truly reunite Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex soon.
