Negasonic Teenage Warheadhas come far, beginning as a one-off X-Men character to starring in her own solo adventures after teaming up withDeadpool. But her run-in with aGalactusversion of herself shows just how far she could go. The future is never certain, however, and it’s hard for even a precog to know for sure what’s coming down the line.

InMarvel’s Voices Infinity Comic#46-48 by Andrew Wheeler, Carola Borelli, Brittany Peer, and Joe Sabino, Ellie Phimister, otherwise known as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, is forced to confronta dark future in which she becomes the new Galactusto escape the end of the universe.

Comic book panel: Negasonic Teenage Warhead appears as a version of Galactus in space.

Ellie is on the run from the TVA, who are hunting her because of her potential to become a universe-destroying threat. The appearance of this"Megasonic Endless Godhead"seemed, at first, to only prove this point. Ellie attempts to sacrifice herself to destroy it - and her - instead of doing the one thing that her precog powers are telling her will save reality, which is kissing her new crush, Yuki.

Thisevolution of Negasonic’s powersis related to her main gift of precognition. In this arc, her precognition allows her to accidentally “steal” powers from her potential future. In one timeline, shesteals Galactus’ power after she foresaw the end of the universe, superseding the Devourer as his successor. The TVA are specifically after Ellie because she accidentally took reality warping powers from the future, but at the series’ conclusion, Ellie sends her borrowed powers back to the future, with the promise of being ready for them if they do one day manifest for real.

Gambit Gets His Biggest Power Upgrade of All Time as Galactus' New Herald

X-Men’s Gambit is getting a shocking power upgrade as Galactus selects him as his new herald, including a cosmic redesign to challenge Silver Surfer.

Ellie’s had a strange pathtowards becoming a major Marvel character. Originally introduced inNew X-Men#115 by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Tim Townsend, Mark Morales, Hi-Fi, Saida Temofonte, and Richard Starkings,Ellie was a Goth precognitive on the mutant haven of Genoshawho was the only one to foresee the island’s destruction and her own death. That death helped to spur Emma Frost towards greater heroism, and that story was it for Negasonic for over a decade. However, after Negasonic becamea supporting character in the Deadpool films, she got to come back in the Merc’s own comic adventures.

Sometimes, Galactus Is Also a Metaphor

The great thing about Negasonic’s Galactus form is how it literalizes her internal conflict. Ellie’s nihilistic streak has been a constant since her first appearance, and the TVA’s declarations that she’ll destroy the universe only seem to prove that nothing’s worth it. The Megasonic Endless Godhead is the literalization of this fear: a version of Ellie who has destroyed everything and exists only to ruin what’s left. Ellie’s savvy enough to call this nihilism out on the page. Maybe she’s been spending too much time with Deadpool.

By accepting her potential as a reality warper, Ellie is able to control her powers and reject the idea that she’s destined for terrible things.

Comic book panel: Negasonic Teenage Warhead recognizes the nihilistic theme as she faces her future self as Galactus.

The arc’s conclusion is the perfect refutation to this nihilism. By accepting her potential as a reality warper, Ellie is able to control her powers and reject the idea that she’s destined for terrible things. Just as she has run from this potential, she has also run from Yuki for fear of rejection or hurting her, and the two finally kissing inMarvel’s Voices Infinity Comic#49, thus saving the universe,is the ultimate symbol of Ellie’s brighter future. No offense toGalactus, butNegasonic Teenage Warhead- made a household name thanks toDeadpool- proves that when it comes down to it, there’s nothing stronger than love.
