In the present timeline, adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis) exits the show in a tragic turn of events, leaving the rest of the survivors with a mess to clean.

Lyle shed some light on season 3’s wilderness timeline and how Natalie’s Antler Queen position would affect the group in an interview withEntertainment Weekly. The show co-creator revealed thatseason 3 will see “a continuation of some of the tensions and resentments in season 2.“With season 2 entering the cannibalistic stage in the Yellowjackets soccer team’s survival story,Lyle warns fans to “buckle up"because “the cannibalism cat is out of the bag.” Check out what she said below:

Lottie (Courtney Eaton) looking upset in Yellowjackets season 2 episode 3.

What we see is a continuation of some of the tensions and resentments that were building in season 2. And those really play a large part in how the girls continue to interact this season. Definitely buckle up this season. The cannibalism cat is out of the bag.

What This Means For Yellowjackets Season 3

Yellowjackets Season 3 Is Built Upon Season 2

In the same interview, Lyle also teased “a little bit of a time jump” in both storylines. It seems thatseason 3 will further build up the existing conflicts and tensions from season 2and see things escalate to a new level. WhileYellowjacketsseason 2’s finale shows Natalie becoming the Antler Queen, the series hasn’t delved into what it means for the group or for Natalie. With season 3 picking up where season 2 left off with a short time jump, audiences will get to seehow Natalie adapts to her new position.

Yellowjackets Season 3’s Timeline Comments Teases More Of The Long-Awaited Rescue Storyline

Yellowjackets creator confirms season 3 will bridge the gap between the show’s two timelines, finally delving into the rescue storyline.

The Yellowjackets soccer team has gone through a few changes in leadership. Jackie was the Queen Bee before the crash. In season 1, Misty almost became a leader, but the group selected Taissa as a more stable and wiser person to lead before choosing to follow Lottie. Natalie’s Antler Queen status was unexpected, given that she pulled the Queen card and almost died inthe Cannibal Ritual. With the girls heading back into the wilderness and the official establishment of their cannibalistic hunting game, Lyle’s comment teasesthe new season ofYellowjacketto be much darkerthan the previous.

Our Take On The Wilderness Timeline In Yellowjackets Season 3

Things Will Likely Get Much Worse

Shauna clearly wants to bethe Antler Queen. Being the group’s butcher means she’s crucial in their overall survival, just like Natalie, who’s the hunter. The girls choosethe appropriate leader during different phasesaccording to their needs. Lottie comes into power when the girls are looking for spiritual guidance to make sense of the wilderness. Taissa is rational and grounded as a leader, and was chosen when they needed someone more mature to guide them after the crash.

By choosing Natalie, it’s clear thatthe surviving girls inYellowjacketsare in their “hunting” mode, prioritizing strength and the ability to secure food when their survival is at stake, which further indicates that season 3 might focus more on the series' cannibalism theme. On the other hand, season 1 does teasethe Pit Girl, who runs from the rest of the hunters when the means for survival have turned into a sport. It’s possible for Shauna to be the Antler Queen one day.
