The canon connections between theDCU’sCreature Commandosand the DCEU’sThe Suicide Squadhave an exciting implication for David Corenswet’sSuperman.Creature Commandos' two-episodepremiere establishes a clear bridge between the DCEU and the DCU through Amanda Waller, Rick Flag Sr., and Task Force M, all of whom find themselves on a mission to protect Pokolistan from Circe in part because Waller is forbidden from assembling a human team after the events ofThe Suicide SquadandPeacemaker. Meanwhile, the fate of the surviving Task Force X anti-heroes is currently unknown.

SinceCreature Commandos' Task Force Mis composed strictly of non-human anti-heroes, Weasel is the only member of Amanda Waller’s Task Force X that returned. However, the fact thatCreature Commandosconfirms that Rick Flag Jr.’s death and Project Starfish are part of DCU canon suggests that DCEU characters like Harley Quinn, Ratcatcher II, and Bloodsport are alive and active somewhere out there. Andif Idris Elba’s Bloodsport possesses the same backstory in the DCU, then it would be safe to say that part of Superman’s DCU backstory has already been established.

Idris Elba’s Bloodsport in Belle Reve for shooting the DCU’s Superman in The Suicide Squad

InThe Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller introduces Robert Dubois a.k.a. Bloodsport to John Economos, telling him how Bloodsport"sent Superman to the ICU with a Kryptonite bullet".Given that James Gunn’sThe Suicide Squadserved as a soft-reboot of David Ayer’sSuicide Squad, which version of Superman almost died to Bloodsport’s attack was left ambiguous. Still, it seemed like it was Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel who had an almost deadly encounter with Bloodsport. Now thatCreature CommandosbringsThe Suicide Squadto DCU canon, it seems more likely that Bloodsport almost killed David Corenswet’s Superman some time in the past.

Super Dark DC Universe Theory Explains How 2025’s Superman Movie Sets Up The Green Lantern Show

I think I’ve figured out a really dark way in which 2025’s Superman could set up the upcoming Green Lantern show in the new DC Universe.

In retrospect, it makes more sense that Bloodsport tried to assassinate David Corenswet’s Superman than Henry Cavill’s. The DCEU followed Henry Cavill’s Superman from his origin story to his death at the hands of Doomsday to his resurrection and the creation of the Justice League, until Superman’s promise to contain Black Adam under Amanda Waller’s command. If Cavill’s Superman had suffered an assassination attempt, it would have likely been brought up at some point in the DCEU, especially if Superman ended up working with his would-be-killer’s boss, Amanda Waller.

Bloodsport’s Assassination Attempt On Superman Fits The DCU’s Timeline

David Corenswet’s Superman Must Have Already Met Several Mid-Level Villains In The DCU

Creature CommandosandSupermanlaunch the DCU at a point in the timeline where the world is already full of metahumans, vigilantes, and monsters. David Corenswet’s Kal-El isn’t a veteran hero by the time he stars in his solo movie, butthe DCU’s Superman must have encountered multiple enemies of all kinds, including some metahumans and a few deadly assassins like Bloodsport. It sounds more likely for David Corenswet’s inexperienced Superman to have a near-death experience with Bloodsport than Henry Cavill’s more seasoned Superman, who must have been wary of Kryptonite both before and after his battle with Batman inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The DCU’s First Scene Already Set Up Wonder Woman’s Debut After Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 Cancellation

Creature Commandos episode 1 sets up the Amazons' conflict with humanity, teasing Wonder Woman’s introduction despite her lack of DCU projects.

For the DCU’s Bloodsport, assassinating Superman may have seemed like a regular mission — another metahuman in his long list of targets. InThe Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller highlights Bloodsport’s assassination attempt on Superman, but doesn’t clarify whether that’s the crime that sent Robert Dubois to Belle Reve. Perhaps Bloodsport was captured long after shooting Superman, while the DCU’s Kryptonian hero focused on facing other threats likeSuperman’s antagonist Lex Luthorand the Engineer. If Bloodsport had tried to kill Henry Cavill’s Superman, other DCEU heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman would have given him a worse punishment than a sentence at Belle Reve.

Bloodsport Suicide Squad Ultraman Superman

So far,Creature CommandosmakesThe Suicide Squadpart of DCU canon. As a result,The Suicide Squadcould be rewatched as the DCU’s first installment — a canon prequel to DCU installments likeCreature Commandos,Peacemakerseason 2, andWaller. Also,if Bloodsport’s backstory remains intact in the DCU, thenThe Suicide Squadwould feature the first mention of David Corenswet’s Superman. However, if James Gunn’sSupermanmakes it impossible for Bloodsport’s assassination attempt to fit Kal-El’s backstory, that would be the first element fromTheSuicide Squadto be contradicted explicitly by the DCU.

Previous to the DCU’s conception, James Gunn had teased anotherThe Suicide Squadspinoff separate fromPeacemaker. This spinoff may have centered around Bloodsport or Ratcatcher II.

The DCU already needs to retcon the Justice League’s cameo inPeacemakerseason 1’s ending, as James Gunn confirmed that the Justice League doesn’t exist yet in the DCU. Harley Quinn’s backstory will also have to be changed if Margot Robbie returns in a future DCU movie or show. If the DCU also retcons Bloodsport’s attack onSuperman,The Suicide Squad’s canon status would start to get complicated.
