Within the MCU, theGuardians of the Galaxyare at a sort of hiatus point, with several members involved in independent projects. However, within comics, Marvel has already provided a perfect segue to bring Star-Lord back, albeit under a different name. A major power upgrade and acquisition of a new suit would give him room to return to the MCU as Major Victory, temporarily leaving his Star-Lord persona behind.

100th Anniversary Special - Guardians of the Galaxy #1(2014) has the creative team of Andy Lanning, Ron Marz, Gustavo Duarte, Edgar Delgado, and Joe Sabino. The issue primarily focuses on the titular team, notably without Star-Lord, who is presumed to be dead during its events. Released in 2014, it was one of several comic issues during Marvel’s 75th anniversary, which postulated how the publisher might celebrate its 100th anniversary. However, by the end of the issue, Star-Lord would, in fact, make a return, revealing himself as a major player in the Guardians' adventure involving Galactus.

Star-Lord Never Stays Out of Action For Long

Marvel Comics Provides a Slew of Opportunities for Peter Quill’s Possible Return

Facing off against Silver Galactus, the Guardians of the Galaxy team line-up includes Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Charlie-27. They receive an assist from Rocket’s “nephews,” Uno, Duo, and Trey, as well asfrom Iron Manfrom Earth-14971. Gamora has taken on the mantle of Star-Lord following the assumed death of Peter Quill. The team faces off against Major Victory, before the hero reveals he is their ally and long-time friend, helping them to save Knowhere and defeat Silver Galactus. Major Victory has gone by several names, but Peter Quill would be great in this role within the MCU.

Currently using the moniker Justice, Vance Astro (formerly Vance Astrovik) has had several aliases over the years, including Major Victory, Major Astro, and Marvel Boy. He isn’t one of the best-known Avengers, and he’s never had an MCU appearance. However, he has been known as a member of the originalGuardians of the Galaxy teamin comics. The MCU iteration of the team has now become a fan-favorite, making its known line-up a great way to introduce Major Victory. Instead of having to introduce Vance and shoehorn him as a new member, Peter could don the mantle and begin a new chapter on his own.

Major Victory Could Present a Possible Guardians of the Galaxy Return

In the case of the anniversary special, Quill was impersonating Vance. However, given Peter’s history of having powers overall, it wouldn’t be a stretch to find a loophole that grants him telekinetic abilities like Major Victory has. The MCU currently has Star-Lord on Earth, reconnecting with his family. After some time, he could return to superhero work. It would be an easy way to introduce Major Victory into the MCU, allowing for further cosmic stories, as well asbringing Star-Lordand theGuardians of the Galaxyback into the fold without deviating exceptionally far from Marvel Comics source material.
