The latest episode ofThe Wheel of Timeseason 3included a major confrontation, making up for a fight that was disappointingly absent from season 1. The Amazon Prime Video series is based onRobert Jordan’sWheel of Timebooks, though the series has often received mixed responses from readers, claiming the differences from the novels have led to an unfaithful adaptation. Season 3’s reviews seem to have won over some fans, however, with the show improving on notable points of critique.
The Wheel of Time’sensemble castincludes numerous fantastically written characters from Jordan’s books, and while it could be argued that there is no “main character,” Rand al’Thor leads all characters in point-of-view chapters in the novels by a large margin. Rand isthe Dragon Reborn, and every storyline exists in his orbit in some capacity. That made it sodisappointing that the first two seasons constantly seemed to pass on some of Rand’s most decisive moments, such as his fight with a Forsaken in the first book.

Rand’s Forsaken Battle From Book 1 Was Cut From The Show
InThe Wheel of Timeseason 3, episode 6,Rand al’Thor finally gets a chance to face off with one of the thirteen Forsaken, Sammael. Lanfear tells Moiraine that she’s going to send Rand a test and to leave him to handle the matter on his own. As Egwene uses the One Power to kill Sammael’s followers, Rand is nearly killed before Aviendha saves him. Then, Rand uses his own innate ability with the One Power to kill Sammael with a blast of lightning.
Wheel Of Time Season 3 Just Turned A Missing Book Character Into A Villain
The Wheel of Time season 3, episode 6 completely changes one book character - rewriting her as a Darkfriend and enemy for Rand al’Thor.
InThe Eye of the World, Rand al’Thor and co arrive at the titular location only to find it guarded by Balthamel and Aginor. This entire sequence was drastically altered in the TV show, whilethe books showed Rand using his untrained access to the One Power to kill Aginor. This is the climactic moment in the novel, and it was a shocking choice to cut it from the show.

The One Powercan be trained, but the fact of the matter is that some characters have a higher innate access than others. Men who can channel are incredibly unstable and run the risk of growing mad due to the Dark One’s taint, but theyhave an inherently strong affinity to the One Power that surpasses most women. As shown by Logain in season 1, men are nearly impossible to tame when in control of their strength.
Rand al’Thor is still new to his powers by season 3, but episode 6 demonstrated just how strong he really is.

Rand al’Thor is still new to his powers by season 3, but episode 6 demonstrated just how strong he really is. For a moment, it even seemed like he was going to resurrect the girl who died, and his blast killed a Forsaken. Rand is only going to grow stronger inThe Wheel of Timeas he continues to understand his capabilities.
