With no word about the release date ofBlack Myth: Wukongon Xbox, it is left to fans to speculate about when the release might be.There is one day that is more obvious to people than others, and there are more reasons than you might expect for that to be the case. With one big event on the horizon, there is hope that it will come out soon.

While it could still be a while for the game to come out on Xboxif there is an exclusivity deal with Sony,Black Myth: Wukonghas been rated for Xbox. This suggests that an announcement or a release is coming soon, which is a reason to get excited. Following that,Xbox boss Phil Spencer’s silence on the matter, followed by playing coy and laughing about the situation, certainly makes it seem like he knows more about it. With those two pieces of evidence at hand, the release day seems like it should be obvious.

TGA 2024 Is A Likely Time For Black Myth: Wukong On Xbox

The Right Time & The Right Place

The 2024 Game Awards, which falls onDecember 12this year, is the most obvious release day forBlack Myth: Wukong. While it could just be an announcement, it wouldn’t be the first time a large RPG has shown up on the console in a shadow release. At the 2023 Game Awards,Baldur’s Gate 3was dropped on Xboxthe same day afterwinning the Game of the Year Award.

The Xbox release forBaldur’s Gate 3was delayed due to issues with getting feature parity, specifically regarding split-screen co-op, between Series X and S. An exception was made for the game, and local co-op is not possible on the Series S.

WhileBlack Myth: Wukongis not currently thought to be in contention for GOTY,we are still waiting for the official nominations to be announcedto know that for sure. If it is in contention for a top award, as it did review quite well, that could be another piece of evidence that the game will have a release announced if not dropped on that day.

With the nominations coming soon, according toThe Game Awards' X (formerly Twitter) page, we might have an even better idea of whether the game will be dropped on Xbox at The Game Awards, or if it will come later.

Baldur’s Gate 3is not the only shadow release on the console, asthese big celebrations, like Xbox’s own Showcase event, have been known to drop games the day of. Recently,Death Stranding: Director’s Cut,Blindfire, andAnimal Wellwere all shadow-dropped, with the latter two coming during Xbox’s Partner Preview. That gives this release window a fair amount of precedent, enough to get the player’s hopes up for a quick release in mid-December.

Black Myth: Wukong Is Also Expecting DLC

Another Possible Announcement On The Horizon

Not only is the game thought to be released on Xbox, but there are rumors ofDLC forBlack Myth: Wukongcoming soon. Whileno release date has officially been announcedyet, a potential leak fromDaniel Camilo(via X) made it seem imminent, near the beginning of 2025. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt, with most speculating that it is more likely to be announced during Chinese New Year as opposed to it dropping at that time.

Either way, DLC is expected to come next year, with fans waiting to know just when. It is highly possible that we could also get an announcement for both at The Game Awards, with the base game getting dropped and the DLC release date in hand if Camilo’s leak was correct. With any luck, this obvious release day will come to fruition for Xbox owners who want to playBlack Myth: Wukongbefore the end of the year.
