According toParade, during a 90s Con panel in Hartford, Connecticut, on Sunday, March 30,AJ McLean revealed that he’s been asked multiple times to compete onThe Masked Singer.He shared,“They keep trying to get me to do it, and people keep thinking I’m on it every season. I’ve never done it, and well…See, now if I do it, I have to find a way to change my voice.”
Whena fan asked if he’d ever joinThe Masked Singer, AJ replied,“I mean, look, if they ask me again…I can’t say I’m gonna do it because then you’ll know I’m gonna do it! I’m not opposed to doing it all.”
If AJ did appear onThe Masked Singer,he’d be following in the footsteps of fellow Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, who placed third in season 4 as Crocodile. Nick also tried to sing in a different style to disguise his true identity, but AJ said that he couldn’t keep it a secret from him. He shared,“When Nick did it, he kept it a secret from us for as long as he could. I’m watching one of the episodes, and I’m like, ‘That sounds like Nick.’ I couldn’t tell.”
However,AJ realized that Nick was behind the Crocodile mask during one specific song. He said,“It was when he did Britney [Spears]' ‘Toxic.’ He did it in his falsetto, so it was a little different. Then, when I found out that he was on it, he didn’t tell us what character. I’m looking at this pink alligator, and I’m like, ‘I know those thighs, and I know that a**.’ No one else has those legs but Nick — those little ham hocks. I know that’s him, and sure enough, he told me afterwards.”
