When aConnectionspuzzle feels particularly challenging or I just want something different, I check out theNYT’s Strands puzzle, which is a good, old-fashioned word search with the twist of not knowing what words you are searching for. That makes it challenging but quite fun,and I love games that make me feel like a little kid again without feeling patronizing at the same time. Check this out if you loved coloring in rows of words.

Today’s Connections Category Hints
FEBRUARY 27 #627
This was a fun puzzle for me, and I thought it was well-designed. It was challenging enough that I didn’t immediately guess all the categories, but I was able to parse it out without feeling like I was on the edge of losing horribly. There were some interesting categories andwhat seemed like a strange combination of words at first. Luckily, I figured it out, and it was amusing, to say the least, as to where “Bigfoot” ended up.

PHONE
RING
This one stood out almost right away, but there are two potential words that could make things harder for you if you were trying to solve this one. CELL and HORN are ones that might be a problem if you are looking at every word that is either a noise like DIAL or a communication device like PHONE. In fact, nowadays it feels quite weird to not put CELL here at all, but now that I know the category name, it makes total sense. Either way, I was able to move on with all my guesses intact.
MIRROR
WHEEL
I guessed this combination mostly on a whim, as I had seen similar categories in the past and I just started putting everything that might be in a car in the category. The first thing I saw was BELT and HORN, so I also briefly considered clowns as an option, but I stay as far away from those as possible, so I waited to see what the real words were. It ended up mixing nicely, and BELT was not something I got right away, but I did manage to find it and realize what it was.

The Letter Boxed game for the New York Times mobile app asks you to connect letters to form words while using various strategies to win quickly.
ORGAN
TISSUE
The one I was least sure about here was ORGAN,and I could see COMPOUND being here quite easily. There’s a lot going on here, but these are all very small parts of bigger things. ORGAN was the biggest and the thing that didn’t seem like it would go with the other building blocks. However, I gave it a chance, and it worked out a lot better than I could have hoped in that way. And, as I stated, CELL could have potentially ended a different way if I hadn’t paid enough attention.
THERMOMETER
I absolutely loved that BIGFOOT was able to be here in such a way as to get the ball rolling on all of these measurements. If we were going by the way people used to measure a foot, this would have been quite awkward as it would have massively changed the size of everything. The other words were fun too,but not quite as fun about thinking of how the world might have changed if all we did was change the measurementson a ruler just for the sake of the big scary tree man who is too shy.
