Today’s Connections Category Hints
NOVEMBER 04 #512
If you are trying to find the right puzzle pieces to fit into the right slots, blind guessing is not going to work well in a game likeConnections. This is particularly true if youget very close multiple times in a rowand cannot figure out which words are the right ones and which are not. To find the right answers, you can use the following clues to guide you.
8 NYT Tiles Strategies To Score Huge Combos
The Tiles game for the New York Times mobile app asks you to use various strategies to pair matching visual patterns together to build huge combos.
Finishing out this puzzle may require more than just the above hints. If that is true, youcan use the category names in the table belowto continue to lead you to victory.

PROVISION
STOCK
This one was a little easier to sort out once I spotted it, at least compared to some of the other categories. I saw FURNISH and STOCK,which turned out to be the first big clues I had for this one. I found PROVISION fairly easily, but it took a little longer to find OUTFIT. However, it did not take nearly as long as the rest of the categories. FURNISH might also be a trick if you place it with the rest of the furniture on accident, but that is less likely as the verb is more distinguishable.
EGO
SELF
This is the real problem category today, and it is particularly so because of ID. ID does belong in this category by all accounts, especially with EGO sitting right there. Not many would take it out of this category once it was securely there unless you realized it was just “I’d” without the apostrophe. I stared at this category for a long time trying different combinations and trying to understand what I was doing wrong, butthis is a case where all 5 words could fit, but there is only one word of these that can fit somewhere else.
NYT Mini Crossword: 8 Strategies To Solve It Fast
This tricky little five by five crossword isn’t always as easy as it looks; here are a couple easy tips and tricks to beat your friends' times!
VANITY
WARDROBE
This one was the most straightforward out of the categories today, and it was the first one I managed to solve. I saw CHEST and WARDROBE and immediately started looking for other cabinet-like pieces of furniture. Ironically, Ithought this category was much more specific than it actually was, but even though it still looks like the case, it is plain and simple. It’s not often the case that a category is more general than I thought it would be, so that was a fun moment to have despite the rest of the puzzle being difficult.
SHELL
WERE
This one is tricky, especially when only one of these words does not make as much sense without the apostrophe.CANT is the biggest clue that something is missing, but figuring out the rest might be harder. And, CANT is a word on its own without the apostrophe, even if it is not used in everyday language. I did think that the last category had something to do with verbs, but I did not get all the way to a missing apostrophe before the puzzle ended.
