Today’s Connections Category Hints
SEPTEMBER 20 #466
As you are looking to figure out the various categories in this puzzle, you will want to look for cues as to which words belong in which category. This could be assimple as noticing that two words have similar definitionsor as complex as figuring out that several words all seem to have a connection to a real-world company or brand. With that in mind, here are four hints to help you see those cues for yourself:
NYT Mini Crossword: 8 Strategies To Solve It Fast
This tricky little five by five crossword isn’t always as easy as it looks; here are a couple easy tips and tricks to beat your friends' times!
If you still need that extra nudge to get you thinking in the right direction, thecategory names are the best way to approach the puzzle, as without them, you have to guess them on your own.

SUSPECT
THINK
While this was not the first category I guessed today, this one had a trick up its sleeve.SUSPECT and FIGURE were the potential pitfalls of this category, as they could be mistaken as words for a single person in the category below. I nearly stumbled here as well, as it felt like both of those words belonged in that category. I took a step back and looked at the other words, and once I saw THINK and IMAGINE, I realized where I made the mistake.
PARTY
PERSON
The biggest trap is the words in the previous category I mentioned. Beyond that, PARTY was the word I missed when I was trying to put the other words in this category together. PARTY is usually related more to a group of people, such as a party of 10 at a restaurant, but itcan also mean a single person.
Once I saw these words together, I realized what I had missed before and was able to recover from my loss. The other three words made much more sense, and like in most of these puzzles, the fact thatthere were three solid choices with two similar wordsthat I was struggling to make fit is a good sign that I was not on the right track.

EMPEROR
SOLO
My obsession with Star Wars finally came into use for aConnectionspuzzle, and as soon as my eyes landed on BOBA, I was combing through the puzzle for other character names. Because of that, this category was the first and easiest one for me to solve today, but I have struggled with the names of people in other categories before. The best way to solve these is to look for weird spellings and compare them to other wordsin the puzzle to see if they might be a name as opposed to an object.
HAWK
LITTER
As someone with two cats myself, I found this nice. I suspected that CAT and HAWK might be in the same category as just two animals, but that is not a reason to automatically guess, as manyConnectionspuzzleswill use these assumptions to trick you. If you were trying to guess this category before you only have four options left, seeing CAT and LITTER is a big hint, as is the fact that none of these words match the others very well.
