NewSmallvilleart shows Tom Welling’s Superman and Laura Vandervoort’s Supergirl fighting Brainiac. While the newDC Universeis getting ready to releaseJames Gunn’s Superman moviein July, there is another possible project of the Man of Steel that has fans excited. Welling and Michael Rosenbaum have been trying to get aSmallvilleanimated sequel series made for some time now, but it is not yet part ofDC’s slate of projects, as the duo still needs to receive the green light from Warner Bros. Discovery. However,Smallvillesequel fan art shows what kind of events it could feature.

On Instagram,@buffy2villeimagined whatTom Welling’s Superman and Laura Vandervoort’s Supergirl taking on James Marsters' Brainiac could look like in aSmallvillesequel.

The art is live-action, not animated like Welling and Rosenbaum are planning for the DC show’s possible return. However, it gives a good idea of what Welling’s Superman could look like after he only briefly wore the suit inSmallville’s series finale. The heroes fight Brainiac’s alien ship as he invades Earth. If the animatedSmallvillesequel happens, the door is open for the continuation of one ofDC’s best TV showsto see Brainiac return.

Should Brainiac Return If The Smallville Sequel Series Ever Happens?

Brainiac is one of Superman’s biggest villains. As such, if Welling and Rosenbaum manage to get theSmallvilleanimated sequel series to move forward, there absolutely should be room for the character to come back. In the world of the series,Brainiac was created by Clark Kent’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El, though it was corrupted by Zod. Then, upon arriving on Earth, Brainiac made Clark’s life difficult under his alias, Milton Fine, before being stopped by the hero and the Legion of Super-Heroes. After being taken to the future, he was reprogrammed as Brainiac 5.

Every Season Of Smallville Ranked, Worst To Best

With over 200 episodes, Smallville has taken many different forms, from a teen soap opera to an action series. Its seasons each have distinct vibes.

This version of Brainiac was no longer a villain, now helping Clark before returning to the future. TheSmallvilleanimated sequel series has multiple ways of using Brainiac. The hero version of the character could appear in an arc with the Legion of Super-Heroes, perhaps with Welling’s Superman traveling to the future. The traditional evil version of the character could also return, now with Brainiac’s more comic book-accurate look and maybe even his skull ship to do whatSmallville’s budget could not allow. Time travel, a backup stored by Zod or Lex, and more are options for Brainiac’s return.

Our Take On Whether Brainiac Should Return If The Smallville Sequel Series Ever Happens

If we are lucky to see theSmallvillesequel series become a reality, then I would love to see Marsters return as Brainiac. We never got to see the villain and Welling’s Clark Kent fight as their iconic selves. The animated sequel would allow the DC show to have Clark as Superman, with Brainiac able to look comic book-accurate and their clash to have a bigger scope and more intense action. I thinktime travel would be the ideal way of making Brainiac evil againand allowing Superman to have one of his biggest villains back for theSmallvillesequel.
