The original plan for Quicksilver’s appearance inWandaVisionhas been revealed. Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, is one of the most important characters when it comes to theScarlet Witch’s MCU journey. The death of Wanda’s brother is one of the most tragic events to have happened to her in theMarvel Cinematic Universe, as Wanda and Pietro relied on one another after their parents' deaths when they were kids. After Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver died inAvengers: Age of Ultron, the MCU brought in Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in Fox’s X-Men movies, as a fake version of Pietro inWandaVision.

Speaking withThe Wrap,WandaVisioncreator Jac Schaeffer explained that the Scarlet Witch was originally going to investigate Quicksilver’s death in aCSI-like episode. According to Schaeffer, the true crime concept used forAgatha All Along’s premiere episode comes from a scrappedWandaVisionidea that would have followed Wanda solving Quicksilver’s death.

InAgatha All Along, Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness investigates the Scarlet Witch’s death. The plot was meant to be the focus of episode eight ofWandaVision, helping Wanda understand that she was living a lie, but Quicksilver’s role in the MCU series and the episode he appeared in ended up changing. Check out the full quote below:

“So, it was always the design that [Agatha All Along] would start with this true crime episode. That was an idea that I had when I pitched WandaVision. It was going to be the eighth episode of WandaVision, that was going to be like a CSI episode, and she was going to be solving the murder of Pietro. He was the one on the slab.

(Laughs). But it was her way, sort of like, to break out of what was going on, and for her to, like, fully understand what’s going on. And I mean, that was a cool idea. But once we got in the writer’s room and really started putting that together, it was clear that we needed to have discipline in our approach to WandaVision.”

What The Quicksilver Plot Getting Scrapped Meant For WandaVision

The MCU Series Went For A Very Different Story

WandaVisionwould have used Quicksilver as a way of showing Wanda that she was not living in reality. Coming in late in the season, the planned storyline would likely have made some big changes to the show. The most notable of them comes from who might have played Quicksilver. If the MCU series ended up going for a story where Wanda investigates the death of her brother, it would have made sense for Aaron Taylor-Johnson to appear in the show, reprising his Pietro fromAvengers: Age of Ultron.

The original Quicksilver plan getting scrapped allowed the MCU to change the ideal Pietro actor forWandaVision, playing with the idea of the multiverse in the fans' minds without actually going there just yet.

However, with the series changing its idea of how to use the character, the alive version of Pietro that Agatha sent in to mess with the Scarlet Witch’s mind was played by Evan Peters. He helped the show trick the audience into believing multiple different scenarios about how Pietro could be alive due to his time as the Fox X-Men movies' Quicksilver. So, the original Quicksilver plan getting scrapped allowed the MCU to change the ideal Pietro actor forWandaVision, playing with the idea of the multiverse in the fans' minds without actually going there just yet.

Our Take On The Reveal Of The Scrapped WandaVision Quicksilver Plot

It All Worked Out For The Best

Sure, it would have been exciting to see Aaron Taylor-Johnson reprise his role as Quicksilver for some possible scenes as Wanda begins to remember her brother after investigating his death. However, asWandaVision’s creator noted, aCSI-like episode would have felt out of place in the sitcom-styled show. I believe the true crime concept was better used inAgatha All Along, allowing the MCU series to have some thematic connective tissue withWandaVision, while also creating an episode-long mystery. Hopefully, Marvel will think of more opportunities to explore Wanda and Pietro’s connection in the MCU.

WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first TV show on Disney+, first aired in 2021. The series kicked off the MCU’s Phase 4 and brought back Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany as Vision. WandaVision strayed away from Marvel’s typical formula, this time formatting itself more like a classic sitcom as Wanda struggles to cope with the death of Vision.
