A GTA 6 Rumor Sent The Internet Into A Frenzy
Recently, a user on X by the name ofbillsyliamgtaclaimed thatmultiple sources at Rockstar Games saidGTA 6would be delayed to 2026. As the rumor racked up thousands of likes and shares, the user doubled down and defended themselves from people saying they were lying. The rumor caused quite a stir on social media and had users on other platforms like Reddit fired up. Naturally, after an11-year wait forGTA 6, no one wants to wait longer than they have to.
Billsyliamgta went on to sayBloombergjournalistJason Schreierwould corroborate the story, but Schreier responded by stating he never said he was going to do that and would only report on the matter if there was something to report on. The following day, the stock for Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games' parent company) dropped $5 shortly after the market opened. Around this time, Schreier would report that six different Rockstar employees stated they had not heard of any kind ofGTA 6delay. Given Schreier’s credibility, it seems likely thataGTA 6delay can be ruled out right now.

Billsyliamgta has since deleted their tweets about the matter and noted they would cut ties with the sources who gave them this information. As of last month,GTA 6was officially on track for a Fall 2025 release date. Rockstar’s last two releases fell in September 2013 and October 2018, so it seems likely thatGTA 6will release in a similar window so long as there’s no delay. Ideally, fans will get a more concrete answer soon, as it’s likely anew trailer or update onGTA 6is somewhere on the horizon.
Rockstar’s Silence Is Hurting GTA 6
Here is why GTA 6 may end up being hurt by developer Rockstar’s silence on gameplay, leading to fan expectations that are impossible to meet.
GTA 6’s first trailer debuted in December 2023, and it would be unlike Rockstar to go a full year without any kind of new update on its most anticipated game. Of course, with a year or more to go untilGTA 6releases, a delay to 2026 could happen. However, it’s so far out that the decision to delay the game likely wouldn’t come until much later if and when Rockstar realizes it is running out of time to finish the game. Ideally, a delay to 2026 would moveGrand Theft Auto 6into the first quarter of the year rather than the following fall.
