We’re basically getting a newStar Warsmovie every week from April 22 through to May 13. The last few years have been rather strange forStar Wars, traditionally seen as a blockbuster movie franchise. For one thing, we haven’t had a new movie since 2019’sStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; the franchise will only be returning to the big screen next year, withThe Mandalorian and Grogu.

Instead,Star Warshas moved to the small screen. The Mandalorianserved as the launchpad for a constant stream of Disney+ TV shows, of mixed success and quality; thebestStar WarsTV showshave been unforgettable epics, but others have failed to land. The Acolytebecame the firstStar WarsTV show to be canceled, and we’re yet to hear any news onSkeleton Crewseason 2. But for all that’s the case, from April 22, we’re basically getting a newStar Warsmovie every week for a block of four weeks.

Andor Season 2 Has A Unique New Release Schedule

We’re Getting Three Episodes A Week

Andoris widely praised as the best live-actionStar WarsTV show to date. Tony Gilroy’s fantastic show is a character study in rebellion, exploring what it really means to stand up against tyranny. It’s set to return on April 22 for a second and final season, one following an unusual format. Charting the five years beforeRogue One: A Star Wars StoryandA New Hope, each three-episode block (or “chapter”) will essentially be a standalone story set in a different year.

And here’s the really exciting thing:Lucasfilm has chosen a totally different release schedule forAndorseason 2. We’re getting three episodes a week, looking like this:

Andorseason 2, episodes 1-3

Andorseason 2, episodes 4-6

Andorseason 2, episodes 7-9

July 04, 2025

Andorseason 2, episodes 10-12

Andorhas an eye-watering $645 million budget, meaning each chapter has a movie-length budget of roughly $215 million. We don’t know the episode runtimes, butAndorseason 1 ranged from 38 to 57 minutes in length. Yes, that’s right;we’re essentially getting a movie every week.

Even Andor Season 2’s Tagline Makes It Feel Like A Movie

“A Star Wars Story”

This isn’t an accident. EvenAndorseason 2’s new tagline - “A Star Wars Story” - has been chosen to give the same impression. This was the tagline of Lucasfilm’s canceled anthology movie series, and was featured with bothRogue OneandSolo. Lucasfilm’s decision to bring it back is smart marketing, a way of telling viewers we should see this as a cinematic event.

It’s been five years sinceStar Warswas last on the big screen. We’ll have to wait one year more. Until then, though, we haveAndorseason 2 to enjoy - the best Lucasfilm show to date, this time getting the movie treatment.
