Why Apartment 7A Doesn’t Officially Introduce Guy & Rosemary

Guy & Rosemary Woodhouse Don’t Have Any Speaking Lines

Though they’re the main characters inRosemary’s Baby, Guy and Rosemary are largely absent fromApartment 7A. The most simple explanation for the two being left out of the prequel is thatGuy and Rosemary’s story has already been told inRosemary’s Baby; audiences already know what happens to them and their interpretations of the events at the Bramford, butApartment 7Aintroduces these twists from the perspective of Terry. During the prequel, Minnie and Roman’s main focus is on having Terry birth the Antichrist, so Rosemary and Guy have yet to truly factor into the plot at this point.

By failing to properly introduce them, the prequel reminds audiences that they’re simply seen as vessels for the cult’s evils rather than real people.

Additionally, theinteractions between Rosemary and Terry would have very different meanings inApartment 7Athan inRosemary’s Baby. The prequel reveals that Terry was skeptical of the Castevets and had already been pregnant with the Antichrist when Rosemary and Guy moved in, so her praising the couple in the laundry room wouldn’t make sense.Apartment 7Aalso situates Guy and Rosemary as the perfect pawns for the cult who simply fell into the Castevets’ laps; by failing to properly introduce them, the prequel reminds audiences that they’re simply seen as vessels for the cult’s evils rather than real people.
